This time of year can be challenging for Redline Magazine: the 2016 season has been well and truly put to bed, while the 2017 race season is yet to start. Or perhaps we should take a closer look at page nine, where the Rocky Mountain Winter Solo Series is already onto their third event! Redline Editor Ed Shuler and friends made their way to the Front Range Airport and witnessed some extremely fast and well-prepped cars do battle for class supremacy. SCCA Solo racing in the Rocky Mountain Division (RMDiv)—particularly in southern regions like Pan Am and Rio Grande—have many events in the wintertime and Colorado certainly has a strong entry as well.

Other stories in this issue detail what else is going on, both in and around RMDiv. Arnie Coleman, our current Director for Area 8, provides a report on what has been going on recently at the National level. SCCA is certainly an organization in the midst of change and “business as usual” is rapidly changing. The next few pages starts our look towards the start of the 2017 race season, including dates for the crash and burn school, new dates in early May for the first RMDiv race at LaJunta, plus the latest charts for how to qualify for the Indy Runoffs.

Pages 10 through 16 hold valuable information on how to get ready for the first race, including a list of technical inspection stations in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. Many racers want to show up for the first race and get their annual tech done, but this plan leads to small delays at best, and show-stopping heartbreak at worst! Please get those annual inspections done early to avoid this sort of drama! Page 11 has the 2017 ruleset for the RMDiv Championship Series for your reading pleasure and page 16 has a list of the RMDiv Championship-eligible races highlighted in blue. Some racers may not be aware that NOW is the time to reserve your racing number for the season. The article on page 15 shows you how and has embedded hyperlinks to make the job easier! Avoid all that duct tape and start building a legacy around your own number.

New SCCA members are highlighted on page 17, and one of them, Dave Byassee gets the spotlight on pages 18-19. There’s plenty of information on how to handle being a new corner worker beginning on page 21, while more experienced corner crews will have the latest news and schedules on the next few pages. Ed Shuler continues “The Quest” on page 25 with details on the never-ending search for more power!

As always, there are full-color classifieds towards the end of Redline and any SCCA member is free to post their racing items for sale in it. Please follow the directions on page 28 to get your ad up and running! Our list of advertisers follows, along with a humorous look at racing with the “In Your Mirrors” photo caption. We hope all your early season preparations are going well as you enjoy this March issue!

David,

Get Well. Heal!
When might you be able to get back into your race car?

Hey there Guy!-

Unfortunately, there are some complications. My spine specialist says I need to wait until June to examine how my fractures have healed. That's only to determine whether a return to motorsports is feasible.
